Milwaukee Cops get in alleyway gunfight
This compilation of bodycam and dashcam footage comes from the Police Department in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While conducting routine patrol operations, officers were flagged down by concerned citizens regarding two persons who were supposedly flashing handguns to intimidate people. When the officers made contact, a brief gunfight broke out. Although no one was killed, both a police officer and a suspect were wounded in the exchange. Therefore, viewer discretion is advised. In this instance, the names of the suspects were not given. However, when the police tried to conduct an investigatory stop in reference to the reported handguns, the two suspects, aged 19 and 39 respectively, attempted to flee. When an officer caught up to the 39-year-old and demanded he drop the gun, he refused. Both he and the officer exchanged gunfire, and both were hit by non-lethal shots. The second, younger suspect surrendered without any resistance given. Both the wounded parties were taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The officer involved has received such a good prognosis that he is reportedly already recovering at home.

This bodycam footage comes from the Police Department in Los Angeles, California. Here, we see officers responding to a 911 call which reported a stabbing. Unfortunately, although the suspect eventually dies in the course of these events, the victim also passes away due to her wounds. Viewer discretion is advised. According to the 911 call, the suspect is identified as Jose Ramos, 23 years of age. The call alleged that he stabbed his wife multiple times. Acting on this information, the police arrive on-scene and are guided to Ramos' location by neighbors and bystanders. When confronted by the police, Ramos raises the knife and gets simultaneously shot by two officers. While one uses a less-than-lethal 40-millimeter round, the other uses his service weapon. When Ramos falls, he is arrested and transported to an area hospital. He will die from his wounds shortly thereafter. While no officers or other persons were hurt, unfortunately, the stabbing victim succumbed to her injuries after also being transported to a nearby hospital.

This combination of bodycam and cellphone footage shows deputies in Lancaster, California attempting to detain a suspect wanted for an armed robbery. Bystanders look on and record as his active resistance escalates to drawing a handgun and firing as the LEOs attempt to cuff him. Viewer discretion is advised. Erik Berrios, 31 years of age, was wanted in connection to an armed robbery which was reported via 911 call. Upon contact, Los Angeles County deputies found Berrios unwilling to comply, and when they tried to effect his arrest, Berrios made an attempt to flee. As the deputies pinned him, Berrios drew a handgun. At this point, one of the deputies attempted to use a TASER. It is not clear whether Berrios deliberately fired as a reaction to being tased, or due to neuromuscular incapacitation. In either case, using a device which forces muscles to clench on an armed suspect within contact distance of officers is probably not classified as "best practice." Berrios fired a round, catching one of the deputies in the lower abdomen. This prompted the LAPD deputies to respond with lethal force. Berrios was pronounced dead on-scene despite aid rendered, and the stricken deputy was transported to an area hospital in "critical but stable" position. A 9-millimeter "ghost gun" was found in Berrios' possession. No other persons were harmed.

This compilation of bodycam footage shows cops from Houston, Texas attempting to interdict a suspect vehicle. The car, a blue Nissan Versa, had been implicated in a recent theft. The driver attempts to flee, and strikes another car in the heavy traffic. In so doing, the driver pins a police officer between the frame of the Versa and the bystander's vehicle. The pinned sergeant then shoots the suspect. Although the wounds are censored, blood is visible, which necessitates viewer discretion. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Maxie Whitaker, 42 years of age. When he tried to flee in the suspect vehicle, his attempt to squeeze through traffic instead placed Sergeant Marquez in extreme danger as two bystander vehicles squeezed the door. This caused the sergeant to fire in order to neutralize further threat. We see the incident first from a partner's view, and then the sergeant's. Whitaker was taken to an area hospital and admitted in critical condition. He has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. Sergeant Marquez was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Here, we see two suspects rob a bank before fleeing in a high-speed chase that involves multiple carjackings and culminates in an officer-involved shooting. Viewer discretion is advised. The two suspects are shown via security camera as they rob the Diablo Valley Credit Union in nearby Concord, California. One suspect, later identified as Cruz Vargas, 29 years of age- from nearby San Jose- is shown in possession of a handgun with drum magazine. Authorities will later discover the handgun has been illegally modified to fire automatically. As the two suspects flee the bank, Concord police give chase until the suspect vehicle is disabled. They remedy this by attempting several carjackings until their stolen vehicle becomes involved in a collision. Both suspects flee on foot, but Concord Police continue to chase Vargas. One of the Concord officers sees Vargas attempt another carjacking, at which point he fires, striking Vargas. He was arrested and provided medical aid and transport to a nearby hopital while San Jose police apprehended his partner, still in possession of the money. It was discovered that Vargas was on parole and his partner, Elijah Phillips, had multiple warrants. Both were charged with multiple counts of carjacking, armed robbery, and weapons violations. No other persons were harmed.

This compilation of bodycam footage shows police officers from Seattle, Washington, arriving to a domestic violence call in progress. Upon their arrival, the suspect- reportedly a former Army Ranger- retreats upstairs into his home, where he takes a parting shot at the victim. As she lies there, the Seattle cops take up a perimeter and the clock starts ticking. Due to the nature of the incident, viewer discretion is advised. Objectively speaking, this is disappointing work. The officers allow the suspect to retreat and barricade upstairs, while only meekly announcing their presence as opposed to any decisive action. Because of this, he has the initiative and chooses to use it to shoot the DV victim. Due to some mixture of what I assume is procedure and training along with fear, they leave her where she lay. Officers are similarly indecisive in telling her to move, or not to, but none of them makes any move to get the patient to safety. For almost the entirety of the five minute video she lays there bleeding while they lamely call for a medic. Eventually, one of the officers gets a shot on the suspect through the window. After this recording ended, Fire/EMS extracted and treated the victim while SWAT took over, establishing a perimeter and throwing in a phone line for negotiations. Eventually they made entry and found the shooter dead. It is unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or a result of the officers. The victim was last listed as in serious condition. A pedestrian effort that may yet cost the life of the victim.

This combination of security camera and police bodycam footage comes from Baltimore, Maryland. It shows police involved in a shootout with an armed suspect. When the suspect goes down, bystanders crowd around him and prevent the police from providing aid in a timely manner. Due to his injuries sustained and likely the delay in care, the suspect is declared dead a short time later. Viewer discretion is advised. BPD officers attempted to make contact with Bilal Abdullah Jr., 36 years of age, at which point he swung his cross-body bag to his chest and began to run. One of the officers chasing Abdullah made physical contact, grabbing him, at which point a gunshot was heard. The BPD officers backed off, taking cover. Abdullah drew a pistol from his bag and pointed it at the officers, who dropped him with gunfire. While an officer was able to recover Abdullah's gun, a crowd of bystanders moved in and prevented the police from effecting his arrest or providing timely medical care. Once the police managed to secure the scene, aid was provided and Abdullah was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. It was also reported that a ricochet round- presumed to be from Abdullah's weapon- struck an officer in the foot, but they were released from the hospital after treatment. No other persons were injured.

This combination of air unit and bodycam footage comes from Oklahoma City. The local police attempted to serve a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, who was wanted for multiple counts of rape. However, he fled from the house, naked and armed. The video shows the moment an officer caught up with the suspect and the officer involved shooting that followed. Viewer discretion is advised. Jose Martinez, 40 years of age, was wanted for three counts of first-degree rape and one count of oral sodomy. However, when Oklahoma City police tried to serve a warrant in his respect, Martinez fled out the back door, as seen here. Despite being naked, he was armed with a handgun. Here, we see an Oklahoma City police officer catch up with Martinez as he throws his handgun over the fence and climbs after it. The officer warns Martinez that he will be killed, but Martinez tries to present the gun anyway, seeming to seek death. The officer grants him his wish, neatly dispatching him with four rounds. Martinez was pronounced dead on-scene.

This combination of security camera and police bodycam footage comes from Orlando, Florida. When the Orange County Sheriff's Deputy observes a person loitering suspiciously behind a local business and attempts to question him, the suspect attempts to flee. The officer's attempts to restrain the suspect escalate to a full-on fight as the cop throws two handguns away from him. When the suspect gets to the weapons again, the Deputy shoots him. Therefore, viewer discretion is advised. The suspect was later identified as Charles St. Fleur, 24 years of age. During the fracas, St. Fleur temporarily gets the upper hand and punches the officer at least ten times in the head. After doing so, he appears to throw one of the handguns over a nearby fence before going for the other. Whether the Deputy saw the suspect get rid of the first weapon or not, and without considering how vulnerable or disoriented he may have been after taking ten shots to the head, he is not expected to bet his life on St. Fleur's intentions with the second pistol. Charles St. Fleur was transported to an area hospital, as was the Deputy. St. Fleur is listed in stable condition, and the Deputy was treated for head wounds.

This compilation of bodycam footage, along with its accompanying 911 call recording, come from Los Angeles, California. LAPD responds to a call for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence in progress, whereupon they encounter a suspect armed with what appears to be an assault rifle. He is dealt with accordingly. Although the suspect survives, the nature of the call and the presence of small children may require viewer's discretion. Due to the high intensity of the call and the reports of a deadly weapon in play, the LAPD officers stack up and pre-plan their entry, including less-than-lethal options. It's honestly excellent work, especially done in such an ad-hoc fashion. However, the suspect (later identified as Shamar Bennett, 26 years of age) is found holding what for all intents and purposes appears to be an AR-platform weapon. Furthermore, he's in a potentially target-rich environment which includes children. This precludes any other tactics for LAPD, beyond neutralizing the suspect ASAP. It's important to note that despite two officers firing, due to the high-stress nature of the incident, Bennett is only hit once, in the leg. We see the officers effect his arrest, care and transport, while clearing the dwelling of four other occupants. Bennett was treated for his injury at a local hospital and absentee booked for corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant. The cohabitant in question was treated for her domestic abuse-related injuries. Bennett's "rifle" was found to be a CO2-powered, fully automatic BB-gun. This, however, has no bearing on the officers' actions, as there was no way to determine this from a distance in exigent, emergency circumstances.

This bodycam footage, coming from Baltimore, Maryland, shows a police officer conducting a welfare check which rapidly escalates to an officer-involved shooting, inside eight minutes. Due to the nature of the violence and the visible aid rendered, viewer discretion is advised. At the beginning of the footage, we see Baltimore County Police Officer Michael Brady attempting to conduct a welfare check on the subject, later identified as Glenn Pettie, 43 years of age. Posting another officer at the front door, Brady calls the complainant before going to an alley at the back of the dwelling at her request. As he comes around back, Ofc. Brady makes visual contact with Pettie, by the back door. Pettie fires a handgun. before fleeing back into the house, resulting in a tense situation as a bystander (presumably the complainant) tries to get out of the line of fire. At 04:19, Pettie re-emerges to fire at Ofc. Brady. Brady returns fire, getting low and using a nearby red car as cover. Shockingly, there's someone in the vehicle. Despite the chaos, Brady remains amazingly calm, instructing the driver to get out of the vehicle while exchanging fire with Pettie and making radio updates. At 05:30, Brady arrests Pettie, who has been visibly wounded in the exchange of gunfire. Again, Brady refuses to lose his composure, referring to the suspect as "sir" and ordering him to get on the ground. His backup officer, who apparently took an entire gunfight to get around the building, helps Brady cuff Pettie. It's only when he inspects the wounds on Pettie that Brady slightly cracks, letting out an audible and well-deserved "holy shit." His partner gets a medical kit and proceeds to do nothing with it, although in her defense, local Fire and EMS arrives moments later. Despite their more competent aid, Glenn Pettie passed away after being transported to an area hospital. A loaded handgun was found on-scene. Miraculously, no bystanders or officers were injured.

This compilation of 911 call and bodycam footage comes from Bakersfield, California. The victim reported that a suspect was attempting to break into her home while armed with several weapons, including a gun. When the suspect pointed the gun at an officer, a use of lethal force ensued, although no one was killed. Due to the wounds briefly shown, viewer discretion is advised. Sadi Diaz, 42 years of age, broke into a woman's home and attacked her, mid-911. Police arrived to find Diaz on the front porch, and as Diaz pointed a handgun at one of the officers, the police opened fire. Despite being initially struck, Diaz managed to fire back, striking the officer in his hand. Although wounded, the officer manages to stay in the fight and continue to manipulate his weapon, which is no mean feat. Both adrenaline and good training are at work here. Diaz and the officer were transported to a local hospital for treatment, as was the suspect's female victim. All are recovering, and Diaz was charged with: attempted murder, burglary, kidnapping, kidnapping with a firearm, assault on a peace officer, and carrying a loaded firearm without registration. He was found with a hammer, machete, and Glock pistol in his possession.

This bodycam footage comes in from Houston, Texas. In it, we see a police officer attempt to stop an armed robbery suspect. The encounter escalates into an officer-involved shooting and the suspect takes a round to the head. Although the graphic details have been censored, viewer discretion remains advised. The suspect, later identified as Earnest Harrison, 33 years of age, was reported to have robbed a local store, brandishing a "large knife" at employees. Houston PD caught up to him on a nearby bridge, with a machete in-hand. Despite being told to stop, Harrison jogs toward an officer with the machete raised. At this point, she fires one round, striking Harrison in the head. Other officers arrive and help to effect his arrest. Several of the officers, including the one who shot, seem stunned by Harrison's condition. While I understand that stress can make people do and say nonsensical things, "Anyone got Narcan?" is unavoidably humorous. While Narcan has its uses, rapid-onset acute lead poisoning isn't one of them. Furthermore, they genuinely seem confused by the fact that he is bleeding from the head. Houston paramedics transported Harrison to an area hospital, where he remained in critical condition before passing away four days later.

This compilation of bodycam and bystander footage from Phoenix, Arizona, shows a traffic stop going badly awry as the suspect gets more and more irate. The situation eventually escalates to a hand-to-hand conflict between the officer and the suspect, who initiates by striking the officer in the head. During the ensuing fight, in which a good Samaritan attempts to break them up, the suspect reaches for the cop's gun. Although all parties survive, viewer discretion remains advised. In a bystander's cell phone recording, we see the officer shoot the suspect in the leg after creating enough distance to do so. Other officers then provided medical aid including a tourniquet to the suspect, and then transported both to an area hospital for their injuries to be treated. The following day, the suspect was booked into jail.

This footage, from Los Angeles Police Department, shows their officers in pursuit of a suspect wanted for child abduction. As he is known to possess and carry firearms, when the suspect reaches into his backpack, the officers opt not to take the risk and open fire. Although he survives, viewer discretion is advised. LAPD officers identified Osmin Briseno, 36 years of age, as he was wanted as a suspect in a possible child abduction. When they attempted a pretext traffic stop, Briseno fled in his vehicle. The footage we have here catches up at the point in which Briseno exits his vehicle and attempts to flee on foot. He makes repeated attempts to reach in his pockets and backpack despite being ordered not to. He eventually deliberately faces an officer and makes an overt attempt to reach in the backpack. As the police know Briseno to carry firearms, they deem the risk too great and rightfully open fire. Despite being struck with gunfire and falling to the ground, Briseno survives his wounds. While being treated at an area hospital he was absentee-booked for a litany of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon (unrelated to the incident shown here.)

Coming from Orlando, Florida, this compilation of security camera and bodycam footage shows a suspect carrying and brandishing what appears to be a handgun. Despite repeated multi-lingual commands to drop it, the suspect refuses to do so, resulting in an escalation to lethal force. Ex post facto, the suspect's handgun was revealed to be a replica. Viewer discretion is advised. The suspect, identified as Manuel Calderon, 25 years of age, had an extensive criminal record which included drug charges and aggravated assault on an officer with a weapon. Based on this criminal history, and all appearances of the weapon in Calderon's hand, objective reasonableness would lead a prudent officer to conclude that it represents a lethal threat, and thereby justifies the force used.

This bodycam footage from Malta, New York shows police officers responding to shots being fired at their own barracks. They encounter the shooter- a 69 year old man- standing in the parking lot with a rifle. The situation escalates when he points the rifle at them, prompting them to open fire. Although the shooter's body is censored, viewer discretion is advised. Responding to the reports of shots fired at Saratoga Barracks, troopers responded and found Eric Levine, 69 years of age, standing in the parking lot with a rifle. Although they repeatedly prompted him to drop the weapon, Levine instead opted to raise the weapon and point it at the Troopers, at which point they opened fire. Levine was taken to an area hospital, where he was shortly thereafter pronounced dead. We can see from the bodycam that less-lethal was a considered option in the form of bean bag rounds (the blue shotgun shells). The Troopers did their due diligence, but unfortunately, by pointing a lethal weapon at them, Levine removed choice from the equation. Post-incident investigation matched the rounds fired into the barracks to Levine's rifle.

This footage from Edmond Oklahoma shows a suspect blinding a police officer with pepper spray and then stabbing him. The attacker was in no way related to the traffic stop the officer is shown conducting. Fortunately, a bystander steps up and helps take down the attacker. Although both parties survive, due to the nature of the attack, viewer discretion is advised. Ocean Hudson, 22 years of age, is shown approaching Ofc. Caleb Hodam as the officer is finishing up a traffic stop. Without warning or provocation, Hudson sprays Hodam in the face with pepper spray. While Hodam is temporarily blinded by the sneak attack, Hudson stabs him.
