Canadians record cartel siege of Puerto Vallarta
This quick clip, taken by a Canadian tourist, shows gunmen taking Puerto Vallarta, a city in Jalisco, Mexico, under siege. The massing of cartel forces in the area came after a Mexican military operation on the morning of 22 February 2026 resulted in the death of El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. This raid, an attempt to capture the leader, was reportedly undertaken with the assistance of US Intelligence apparatuses. Cartel soldiers and sympathizers established roadblocks and occupied buildings throughout Puerto Vallarta in response. Foreign visitors and tourists were repeatedly urged by their respective governments to stay in-place and indoors as flights were disrupted by the activity.
