Islamists storm army positions

Archival footage from the Syrian Civil War. Islamists with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) storm positions of Asad regime troops. In the initial few seconds it is clear that they are not concerned with flagging each other or muzzle discipline. By September 2017, the conflict had been raging since 2011 and the prodemocracy groups and army defectors which had initially opposed the regime had been usurped by a mishmash of extremists factions. Some groups, such as HTS, were offshoots of Al Qaeda. The Syrian Army, on the other hand, was quite exhausted by this point and relied heavily on support from Russia and Iran.
