Ukrainian colonel assassinated in Kyiv
On Thursday morning, Kyiv police discovered the body of a man in the Holosiivskyi district, identified as Ivan Voronych, a colonel in Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), with multiple fatal gunshot wounds.According to Ukrainska Pravda, citing law enforcement sources, the assailant ambushed Voronych, firing five shots from a handgun around 9:00 a.m. local time before fleeing the scene. Former intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky and former Verkhovna Rada deputy Ihor Mosiychuk confirmed the victim’s identity, with Chervinsky noting Voronych’s significant role in countering Russian threats since 2014.The SBU has launched an investigation into the killing, while Kyiv police released video footage from the crime scene. Chervinsky highlighted Voronych’s contributions to establishing a key SBU division that continues to disrupt Russian operations.The motive and circumstances of the attack remain under investigation as authorities work to locate the suspect.
