Rebels destroy pipeline in Niger
An ethnic Tuareg separatist group, the Mouvement des Nigériens pour la justice (MPLJ), has attacked an oil pipeline in Niger. The MPLJ has operated since 2007, staging attacks against the military and against critical infrastructure. Though being one of the top five uranium producers in the world, Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. The MPLJ demands a greater share of uranium revenues and a limit on the expansion of uranium mines into their territory.
