Madagascar president flees in French military plane
Footage purportedly showing a French military aircraft taking off with President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar. For weeks the country has been overwhelmed by crowds of young protesters, dubbed the “Gen Z Protests.” In recent days, an elite military unit, which helped Rajoelina’s rise to the presidency in 2009, withdrew its support and joined the protesters, forcing Rajoelina to flee the country. The erstwhile president, who also holds French citizenship, purportedly struck a deal with French President Emanual Macron that included French assistance evacuating the capital. Rajoelina’s destination is unknown, but Dubai is one possibility. No penguins were involved in this operation.
