Nigerian super tucano light attack plane
A Nigerian A-29 Super Tucano light attack plane make a pass over Beninese rebels in the town of Cotonou. The Super Tucano is a Brazilian-manufactured turboprop aircraft which looks like something out of World War II, but since production began in 2003 it has become the backbone of air forces in the developing world. A relatively simple aircraft, the platform is ideal for delivering fires in support of ground troops, particularly against an enemy with minimal air defenses. It has hard points for a multitude of conventional and smart munitions and has been upgraded to integrate smart munitions such as the JDAM. For the Nigerian Air Force, which is more concerned with close air support than air superiority, the Super Tucano is an essential platform in operations against rebel groups and Islamic insurgents.
