Oops- F-16 Fighting falcon faceplants off runway
A Taiwan Air Force F-16 plunged, nose-first, off a runway on Aug. 31, 2021 at Pingtung Air Base while rehearsing an emergency landing in preparation for the upcoming 37th annual Han Kuang military exercises. The aircraft was practicing emergency landings on a rain soaked shortened airstrip. The landing attempt was going fine until the deployment of the drag parachute caused the aircraft to suddenly lurch left into the ditch. Reportedly, the pilot was uninjured and the F-16 only sustained minor damage.
