Islamists raid Burkina Faso Army base
A Compilation of footage showing a Burkina Faso army camp near Gamboro which has been raided by Al Qaeda-affiliated militants. The facility is fortified by Hesco surrounding a compound with a few crude structures. Damaged or destroyed military vehicles can be seen littering the compound. The raiders moved in on motorcycles, and the absence of military casualties or prisoners makes me wonder if the soldiers merely left when the militants arrived. Like other countries in the Sahel, Burkina Faso has been plagued by Islamists bands seeking to erode public trust in the government’s ability to maintain security. The country is engaged in substantial efforts to build its military and is courting foreign allies, such as Russia.
